Why use PDF as a file format

A lot of people ask why the PDF file format is so popular? After all, it can be very hard to edit it.  Well, I was going to write an entry to explain but Duff Johnson has already published a really eloquent article explaining exactly why so I will recommend that. Do you agree with him?
