Book Review: This is MARKETING - 'You can't be seen until you learn to see' by Seth Godin

This Is Marketing: You Can’t Be Seen Until You Learn to See, presents a new age approach to REAL marketing. We are big fans of Seth Godin at IDRsolutions and you can read our thoughts on some of his previous books.

Like his other books, Seth Godin has again been successful in inspiring millions by presenting the core of his marketing wisdom in this book or shall I say a ‘guide’.

This book is based on his 100-day seminar ‘MarketingSeminar.com’. In the book, he speaks about how to make things better, by making change happen.

He highly emphasis that marketers should follow the path of connection, empathy and change.

In this era of internet, every businessman is focusing on getting more and more followers. But, one of the most important ways of marketing is to focus on the smallest viable audience. He mentions that “Instead of asking, how can I get more people to listen to me, how can I get the word out, how can I find more followers, how can I convert more leads to sales, how can I find more clients, how can pay staff? You can instead ask, ‘what change do I seek to make?’”

He highly specifies that effective marketing doesn’t begin with a solution, instead of with a group we seek to serve, and a change they seek to make.

Simple Marketing promise is to resonate with the listener and once promises made has to deliver on the promise. Seth also shares how you can apply this goal, and like his other books, he provides us with a blend of insight, observation and ton of short case studies and stories.

There are many books out there about marketing, but this one is deep and a word of wisdom.

Once upon a time, Marketing was something we left to the Marketing team. In 2019, we are all in Marketing and everything is marketing… What I liked most about this book was that it clearly explained how anyone can be a successful marketer, and I will be using his suggestions every day in my various roles.

I highly recommend reading this book.
