7 things to do while you are attending DevFest Istanbul

1 min read

If you are attending DevFest Istanbul on Sunday 7th December 2025, you are guaranteed a great time! It’s an amazingly friendly event, with lots of speakers to hear and stands to visit (remember to drop by the IDRsolutions stand and grab your free stickers).

But you are also in Istanbul – the capital city of the world for much of its history (and still considered unrivalled by many). So set aside some extra time and arrive early to enjoy the city. Here are 7 ideas from us to do as well as attend the event.

1. Shop in the Egyptian Bazaar

Egyptian Bazaar
You could all too easily get lost in this huge, covered maze of shops. It is full of sights, sounds and smells to dazzle the senses and a great place to get some unique presents.

2. Cruise along the Bosphorus

cruise
One of the best ways to see the city is from the water. Get comfortable and enjoy the ride.

3. Descend into the underground Cistern

Built originally as a Mediaeval water store for the city, the Basilica Cistern was rediscovered in the 16th Century. It has been used as a location in the James Bond film ‘From Russia with Love’ and is now restored and lit up. Walk round its 336 columns but watch out for the Medusa’s head.

4. Get your photo at Topkapi Palace

There are lots of stunning views to see and take photos so remember your camera. This is the speakers tour at the Topkapi Palace – the Sultan obviously has the best views from his residence.

5. Walk along the seafront at Night

night
Istanbul is always buzzing and spectacular, especially at night. Walk along the seafront and take in the light show.

6. Visit Troy

It’s a full day trip which takes you along the Bosphorus and you also sail across the Hellespont. It’s the mythical city of Homer’s Iliad (the original blockbuster) and you can really imagine Brad Pitt’s Achilles walking on the same ground. It’s also a real place and the birthplace of Archaeology.

7. Say hello to the cats

Istanbul is home to a large number of cats. You can’t miss them so introduce yourself.
